Landmark commenced its operations in 1987 with its first store in Chennai with a
floor space of 5500 sq. ft. Landmark is the first large format book retailer in
India. Landmark currently has 10 stores, ranging in size from 12,000 sq. ft. to 45,000 sq. ft, 3 in Chennai, 1 in Bangalore , 1 in Mumbai, 1 in Vadodara, 1 in Gurgaon, 1 in Pune, and 1 in Lucknow.
Until 1996, Landmark was focused on books, stationery
and greeting cards and then added music to its product portfolio and also started
the trend of stocking curios, toys, music, CDs and other gift items. Category killers
in all focus categories- Landmark's USP is the range and depth of its stocks. Landmark

Landmark has the widest range of titles i.e. over 100,000 titles across different

more. Trendy jewellery, crystal, watches,sunglasses,luggage, perfumes and leather
products are also available.

Landmark organizes an Open Quiz program every year where over 1000 teams participate from all corners of the country. It is the largest open quiz programme in the country and has been successfully conducted in Chennai (for over 15 years), in Bangalore (3 years) and in Pune (last year). This year the quiz would be launched in Mumbai as well.

Trent Limited acquired a 76% strategic interest in the largest, privately owned book and music retailer Landmark and its subsidiary firms for a consideration of Rs.103.6 crores. Established in 1998, Trent Ltd. is part of the Tata Group that operates the Westside chain of retail stores and Star Bazaar, a hypermarket providing a large assortment of products made available at the lowest prices.
