Synopsis of One Night @ The Call Centre
One Night @ The Call Centre is a best-selling novel about six employees working at a call centre in Gurgaon. This is the Hindi version of the English novel. The book starts with the narrator taking a train journey from Kanpur to Delhi, and on the way he meets a beautiful girl. When she hears that he is an aspiring writer, she promises to tell him an interesting story, if he agrees to pen it down. The plot then winds through the lives of the six colleagues, who have their own problems and concerns to deal with. The six characters, Esha, Priyanka, Radhika, Shyam, Military Uncle, and Varun decide to spend a night together outside of office. The story takes an unexpected turn when they receive a call from God. The characters re-examine their lives as a result, and what happens next forms the crux of the story. Against the backdrop of a call centre career; a relatively new opportunity in the lives of the educated middle class, Bhagat weaves a story of ambition, familial pressure, lost love, and the conflict of traditional and modern values.
